GouvAlert.lu: Government Mobile App for Emergency Alerts
GouvAlert.lu is a mobile app developed by the government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to alert the population during emergencies. It serves two main purposes. Firstly, it allows the 112 service (Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps) to broadcast alerts about major incidents. Users can also directly contact the emergency number 112 through the app, with the call automatically geolocated by the 112 service to enable quick and precise rescue actions. Secondly, the app provides users with notifications on their smartphones during emergency or crisis situations that impact public safety.
The app complements the alert system operated by the Crisis Communication Service and is part of a broader initiative to increase public awareness and understanding of risks and protective measures. It also offers information on appropriate behavior and emergency response plans even when there is no ongoing alert.
GouvAlert.lu collects location data solely for activating local notifications and allowing emergency services to locate users, even when the app is closed or not in use.
